Dr Bernadine Idowu is a Biochemistry Graduate from King’s College London (KCL), she went on to do a PhD at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre, Queen Mary University of London, researching the organisation of the cytoskeleton in chondrocytes, articular cartilage at the Institute of Orthopaedics, University of London.
After her PhD she continued her research at the Institute working as a Clinical researcher, part of the research resulted in her becoming an award winning scientist, having been a recipient of the Roger Cotton Prize for developing a diagnostic test which diagnoses Fibrous Dysplasia.
She continued her research at KCL examining Bone regeneration using STEM cells. Her other interest is in Diversity and Inclusion and she became a champion for students and staff resulting in various projects relating to race, including the annual BME Early Career conference (ECR) – How to Stay in Academia, now in its 7th year. Bernadine is a renowned speaker invited to give keynote speeches on Diversity in Science and the future of ECR at various Universities around the UK.
