Nonkosi Tyolwana, Dean of Student Affairs, Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Nonkosi Tyolwana is the Dean of Student Affairs at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Before her current position, she was the Director for Diversity, Inclusivity and Social Change (CDISC) at CPUT. Nonkosi worked as a teacher in high schools, lecturer at Rhodes university (Grahamstown) and the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities before joining CPUT. She holds M.A (FS) in Transformation (with gender transformation research focus); and M.A(SU) in sociolinguistics. Moving from the basic premise that universities reflect society and do not exist in isolation.
With over 18 years of student-centered services, Nonkosi championed women empowerment, gender equality, diversity, inclusion, Gender-based Violence (GBV) and transformative student development. She is a published author and has co-authored books through book chapters in publications such as Interpreting in the Community (Van Schaik Publisher), Voices of Our Own (Poetry) and Anthology of women stories (Women In Writing Publishing).
She is serving in various boards and strategic organizations such as Universities South Africa (USAf) Transformation Managers Forum (TMF), Employment Equity Managers Forum (EEMF), South African Literary Awards (SALA), Golden Key and the South African Association of Senior Student Affairs Professionals (SAASSAP). Nonkosi currently serves as the Country Portfolio Evaluation (CPE) Reference Group Member on Women Empowerment (GEWE) led by the UN Women South Africa Multi-Country Office (SAMCO).
