Prof Botha Catherine

Prof Botha Catherine One of the first five female full Philosophy professors in South Africa, Catherine specializes in ethics and aesthetics in the philosophy of dance and philosophy of technology. Her 2021 edited volume “African Somaesthetics: Cultures, Feminisms, Politics” is a pivotal work on embodiment in the context on the discourse on colonization, decolonization, and globalization in Africa. An acclaimed educator, Catherine received both the UJ Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Best Young Teacher (2014) and Best Teacher (2020), an unprecedented achievement. Currently full professor at the University of Johannesburg, she’s dedicated to mentoring students, amplifying women’s voices, and fostering growth and flourishing in the academic space.
