Prof Christa Grobler

Prof Christa Grobler has been a loyal employee of Vaal University of Technology (VUT) since 1997. She has a vast variety of experiences both in Health Sciences and in Higher Education. As a leader, building capacity and knowledge transfer is her passion and consider inter- trans- and multidisciplinary collaboration as a high priority and values team dynamics.

She obtained her D Tech in Biomedical Technology at Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2015, was the Head of the Health Science Department and appointed as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences from the 1st of July 2023. Her research focus is to evaluate the cardiovascular risk in black South Africans.

She managed to develop a research niche area entitled: Evaluation of cardiovascular risk markers in the black SA population. She has successfully supervised eight M Tech students and is currently supervising two PhD and four Masters students. She is the author/co-author of eleven peer-reviewed papers and co-authored two book chapters. She has presented at national and international conferences.

Prof Grobler received national recognition as a leader in Health Science by being appointed in 2020 by the Minister of Health to serve on the Professional Board for Medical Technology (Vice-chair) of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) till 2025. Appointed by Member of Executive Council (MEC): Health to serve as a member of the Provincial Health Research Committee of Health in Gauteng. The Council of Higher Education (CHE) appointed her to serve as a member of an Institutional Audit Panel.

As an empowered scholar of distinguished quality, she indicated that making a significant contribution to academic excellence, research capacity building, and community engagement is an honour and privilege.
