The Emerging Women Leaders Programme (EWLP) is a three‑day residential leadership experience designed for women in higher education who are ready to grow, lead, and make an impact. Hosted at the Elangeni Hotel in Durban, the programme brings together aspiring, early‑career, and mid‑level women leaders for an immersive journey of learning, reflection, and connection.

Delegates will engage in plenary sessions, developmental workshops, breakaway activities, and talks by accomplished leaders across the higher education sector. The programme also includes structured networking opportunities, shared meals, and reflective spaces that strengthen professional relationships and personal leadership insight.

EWLP is the ideal platform for women who value growth, collaboration, and meaningful leadership development. With limited spaces available, early registration is strongly encouraged.

Join us as we develop and empower the next generation of women leaders in higher education.

Emerging Women Leader Programme (EWLP) 2025

Date: 4 – 7th May 2025

Venue: Doubletree Hilton Hotel, Woodstock, Cape Town

Are you an aspiring leader or want to refine your leadership skills as a woman leader?

This programme has been created with you in mind. Learn more about leading people, processes, and yourself. Get to network, collaborate and work with other women leaders from different universities. Ask gurus in leadership questions and hear about other women’s experiences and best practices in the sector.

The Higher Education Resource Services – South Africa (HERS-SA) will be hosting an inaugural Emerging Leader Programme (ELP) at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Upper East Side, Woodstock, Cape Town from Sunday, 23rd July to Thursday, 26th July 2023. HERS-SA was founded in 2003 to address the critical shortage of women in Higher Education, a major area of concern within the sector. The organisation has been providing professional and leadership development opportunities for women in Higher Education in South Africa for 20 years. HERS-SA ELP is aimed at women who:

  • academics and support staff who aspire to be leaders.
  • are at an entry-level and mid-level of leadership
  • would value the opportunity to meet and network with other women employed in higher education.

There are only 80 spots available. Institutions are encouraged to select candidates as soon as possible to attend the four-day-long residential. The ELP offers a unique opportunity for women to shape their learning according to their development needs by selecting to participate in a range of plenary sessions, development workshops, breakaway activities and attending talks by well-known leaders in Higher Education and other sectors from our set programme. Our breakfast, lunch and evening dinners offer further networking opportunities. You are hereby invited to nominate and sponsor women from your institution who are currently employed in or who possess the potential to be employed in leadership positions.
